Tips on Spring Cleaning for London Rentals

It may seem as if winter will never loosen its grip, but warmer weather will eventually arrive.  And when it does, a clean and organised home is a great way to celebrate the change of season.  Some people think spring cleaning, with its origins in the days when coal and wood fires were used to heat houses, is an outdated tradition.  While it’s true that your London rental home should be kept tidy throughout the year, there’s no disputing that a vigorous cleaning at the end of winter remains deeply satisfying.  To help you prepare for this annual task, here are some hints to follow.

Begin planning now and this chore will not loom so large, even if you live in what seems to be one of the messiest London apartments for rent!

  1. Make a list of what you want to accomplish, set your priorities and make a realistic schedule.  Consider washing the windows, scrubbing the floors, picking up the carpets so you can sweep under them, dusting the drapes, and flipping the mattresses.
  2. Gather the tools and supplies needed – bucket, mop, broom, dust cloths, cleaning solvents, etc.
  3. If you want to clean one room in your home for rent in London at a time, follow the golden rule of not leaving that room until you have thoroughly cleaned it.  For this, you need to carry all the supplies and tools with you, as well as boxes or bags for anything to be stored, put in another room, donated or thrown away.
  4. Start at the top level of your home and work your way down.  This will save unnecessary trips up and down the stairs.
  5. Play peppy, vibrant music and sing along.  The work will go faster and if you find yourself dancing, well, consider it a new exercise routine.
